5. Neurodivergent Social Work Voices Campaign: MJ

Today I am speaking with MJ a Dyslexic, Dyspraxic and ADHDer social worker working with adults. In our conversation, MJ discusses how agency roles meet her ADHDer needs for new things and has enabled her to meet lots of amazing people. MJ explains she is beginning her journey, having learnt about her neurodivergence a year ago. MJ introduces the personal challenge of not seeing her brain as ‘something wrong’ and instead reframing and observing her brain as being ‘different’ to others. MJ discusses how she has had to work through internalised ableism and try to distance other people’s comments about her ability. MJ credits her strong sense of social justice and imagination with being neurodivergent. MJ describes social work as ‘coming home’ as it meets her neurodivergent special interests.
